Pha trộn khéo léo thế giới thực và ảo Thế giới của Belle được tạo nên bởi hai khung cảnh đối lập Một bên là thành phố Kochi yên bình thuộc tỉnh Kochi, nơi bắt nguồn của lễ hội Yosakoi nổi tiếng; còn lại là thành phố ảo “U” với 5 tỷ cư dân, hoa lệ, rực rỡ và tràn ngập sắc màu. Cây cầu mà cô bé Suzu đi học mỗi ngày chính là cầu lặn Asou bắc qua sông Niyodo, trong khi bến xe buýt mà cô cùng bạn bè đi học là trạm dừng xe bus số 2 phía Tây, và bến tàu đưa Suzu lên thành phố cũng là ga JR Ino ở tỉnh Kochi. Những địa điểm này khi được đưa vào thế giới anime dưới bàn tay của Mamoru Hosoda đều đậm chất thơ, rất có hồn, đúng như phong cách của vị đạo diễn này. Belle cũng góp phần đáng kể vào các chiến dịch quảng bá du lịch của thành phố Kochi vào mùa hè vừa qua. It tried to tackle multiple themes and story threads which ended up with inconsistent pacing and weird narrative flow. The marketing showed that Belle and Dragon to be the main story arc of the film, but that ended up the weakest part for me since there was little to no chemistry between them, and the payoff of the story was half-baked and rushed, imo. The U world is also confusing in how the Avatar characters are operated, and the world is a bit barebone and didn't look that interesting given most of the time it's just a bunch of AS getting crowded without doing any activity beside just listening to Belle's singing. It felt like a lesser version of Summer Wars's Oz with features being stripped issue I have was the side characters being so forgettable. Hosoda used to masterfully created great supporting characters in his past movies that made me relate to and care about them, like in Summer Wars where each of Natzuki's family members was so unique and memorable with their own quirk. In Belle, I have no idea what kind of relationship Suzu had with her dad, or why she's hanging out with the other ladies and who they even were until the "blink and you miss" reveal at the end of the movie. Her school friends were a bit more entertaining with some good laugh, but they hardly stood only part worth the praise were the visual and animation, but honestly it's to be expected when it comes to Hosoda and studio Chizu. The music is good but sometimes it felt like emotionally manipulative especially the song during the climax that tried to make you cry along with but they just didn't hit me at I couldn't bring myself to enjoy it despite the stunning animation, which pained me since I was really looking forward to this movie.
